How to Play Mousehunt

Starting the Hunt:

There are two ways to start a hunt. The first is by sounding (clicking) the Hunter's Horn. This can only be done once every 15 minutes. The Hunter's Horn will also sound if a friend in the same area sounds their own Hunter's Horn while you are ready to hunt. The second way to begin a hunt is called a "trap check." Trap checks occur every hour, on the hour, so long as the hunter has signed into MouseHunt in the last 24 hours.

Encountering a Mouse:

Next, it is determined which mouse you encounter during this hunt. You can only encounter a mouse that is known to inhabit the specific location that you are hunting in.

Attracting the Mouse:

After a mouse is encountered, it is next determined whether or not the mouse is attracted to the bait currently in your trap. This is the job of the cheese. Various cheeses have varying abilities to attract mice depending on several factors.  The trap/base combination can also help in attracting the mouse using their Attraction Rating characteristic. Failure to attract a mouse may lead to your cheese going stale. The likelihood of this happening is based on another trap characteristic: the Stale Effect. When a cheese goes stale, you will lose it. However, not all is lost! Once you have reached the rank of Apprentice, you will collect these stale cheeses for later use.

Catching the Mouse:

We're almost there! If you attract the mouse, it is then determined whether or not you catch the mouse in your trap. This is determined by a comparison of the mouse's power to your trap/base combination's power. Obviously, the more powerful the trap/base combo, the greater the likelihood you have of landing the mouse. It is believed, by comparison with HitGrab's other Facebook game Mythmonger, that the power of the mouse and power of the trap are compared in a ratio that corresponds with a percentage chance of catching the mouse.

The chances are enhanced if your trap's power type is especially effective against the mouse. For more information on this, see the page on Type Effectiveness

Your Hunter's Rank also plays a small part in your chances of catching a mouse. As you climb the ranks, a percentage point or two is added to your chances of landing a mouse.

Congratulations on finding the secret research facility of Digby!

This safe haven was made after the Laboratory was overrun with mice. Unfortunately, it did not take the mice long to find it. The scientists now need your help hunting down the intruders!

Be sure to visit the Trapsmith in Digby to view its experimental traps. You will notice an extremely powerful trap called the DrillBot, along with two strange portal traps. These portals use a form of damage called Shadow. A shadow trap will come in handy should you plan on heading west towards the dark graveyard.

Digby seems to be the perfect environment for the rare Mole mouse. If you have yet to discover this breed, it may be worth while hunting for it here.

Welcome to the gloomy Laboratory, brave MouseHunter!

Years ago the King built this laboratory to research why the mouse population was increasing so rapidly. Unfortunately, a few bizarre experiments led to whole new breeds of mice, only making matters worse!

There is much to discover in the Laboratory. A Dwarf mouse has been reported to be carrying a key to a mobile secret research facility. Hunt this Dwarf and acquire the key to unlock a new hunting ground, as well as some new experimental traps!

A few of the mice here have also managed to steal vials of radioactive waste. This radioactive goo is leftover from experiments in creating new, more powerful forms of bait. Whatever they are, I have a feeling they just may come in handy...

A dangerous looking Zombie mouse has also been rumoured to be carrying a tattered piece of the map. I fear this map may lead west, towards the dark forest. Upon finding this piece of map, make sure you are well prepared before traveling to the location it unlocks.

This place gives me the creeps!

The Mousoleum is an extremely dangerous hunting ground, but the mice here come with a large reward for their capture!

To be successful hunting here, you will need to use Radioactive Blue cheese for bait along with a Shadow trap. Radioactive Blue cheese is made by using potions that the mice of the Laboratory drop. If you need to purchase a Shadow trap, travel to Digby and visit the Trapsmith there.

Be on the watch for perhaps the most dangerous mouse here, the Lycan mouse. These beasts migrated from the North and may hold the key to finding new hunting locations.

I'm impressed, you have proven yourself as a capable MouseHunter by making it to the Forbidden Grove!

This entire hunting ground is actually a giant trap designed to catch the powerful Acolyte mouse! Every few hours the massive stone gates close, sealing this area off from the Catacombs. When the gates close, a thick fog fills the grove and any who are still inside are transported into the Acolyte Realm.

The mice here are weak to Arcane traps and are highly attracted to Ancient cheese. Ancient cheese is made by combining three Stale cheese with six Ionized Salt. You can also add three Magic Essence to the same recipe to double the amount of cheese produced.

The mice within this grove are trying reverse the effects of the portal to keep a two-way gate open at all times. Should they accomplish this goal, armies of mice will soon invade Gnawnia at the command of the evil Acolyte!

Be on the look out for magical runes dropped by the mice who occupy the Forbidden Grove. Runes are used to craft Runic cheese, which is the only cheese capable of attracting an Acolyte within the Acolyte Realm.

Remember that you can only stay in the grove for so long. When the gates close you will be transported to the Acolyte Realm. Keep this in mind before leaving your trap for long periods of time.

Hunting tips by Larry in Dojo.

Now You can view Hunting tips by Larry in Dojo.

Welcome to the Dojo!

The Dojo is where the students of the three Furoma schools train. The three schools are: Claw, Belt and Fang. If you catch one of the students, there is a very good chance they will drop one of their school's tokens. These tokens are vital in the creation of three very special forms of cheese.

Carefully read the descriptions of the tokens you collect for clues on how to craft special flavours of cheese. There are even rumors that one of Plankrun's Journal Pages can be found in the Dojo which may hold some interesting information.

Once you've collected tokens and made new types of cheese, you'll want to head to the Meditation Room where you can hunt the students' masters.

One discovered weakness of the Furoma students is Maki cheese. You can make Maki by smashing three pieces of SUPER|brie+ with your Hunter's Hammer then combining them with three Curds and Whey and one piece of Nori. Although Maki will make a few more student mice come to your trap, it will not guarantee that you'll catch them.

Confused about crafting and how to make cheese? You can read the discoveries and research of your fellow hunters within the MouseHunt Wiki or ask questions on the discussion boards.

Finally, I have a suspicion that incredibly dangerous Assassin mice may be in the Dojo on a hunting mission of their own. Catching one these mice may reveal clues on better ways to combat the forces of Furoma.
